Henllys Community Council
Community Support
Henllys Community Council aims to do all it can to make Henllys a pleasant and safe place to live.
To this end the Community Council is involved in activities both within Henllys and in the wider communities of Torfaen and Wales.
Within Henllys the Community Council –
- Equips and maintains the main playpark next to Henllys Village Road (see the separate link to the left)
- Publishes a free newsletter, the Henllys Herald, three times a year (again see the link to the left)
- Sponsors the Annual Village Fete to provide free children’s’ entertainment for example - rides, bouncy castle and mega slide, face painting, Punch & Judy Shows.
The Village Fete is organised by members of the Henllys Village Hall committee and usually takes place on the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of July each year in the main playpark on Henllys Village Road. (See the link to the left for more details.)
- Sponsors roadside planting along Henllys Way.
- Maintains two notice boards, one on Henllys Village Road and one on the corner of Birch Grove.
- Provides grants for local voluntary groups (see link to the left)
- Monitors and reports environmental problems
- Reviews and comments on local planning applications
- Sponsors minor works
- Has representatives on the village hall committee
The Community Council is always interested to hear the views of its residents on any matter affecting the community. Please refer to the "Contact Us" page for information.
In a wider context Henllys Community Council -
- Represents the residents of Henllys by participating with other communities within Wales in many events, particularly in events which support charity and voluntary groups. The main representative in this role is the current Chairman who, by the wearing of the Henllys Community Council regalia, provides identifiable evidence of the friendliness and concern of Henllys for the wider community.
- Maintains close contact with our local Police to keep abreast of any problems and provide support and feedback. See the PACT link under "Local Information".
- Represents the views of our community to a wide range of bodies such as Torfaen County Borough Council, the Welsh Assembly Government, Stagecoach, One Voice Wales and many others.
- Has representatives on various external bodies such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, Torfaen County Association of Local Councils, Cwmbran Regeneration Strategic Partnership, Torfaen Museum Board
