Henllys Circular Walk

 
There are two circular walks around Henllys details of which are available on two excellent brochures including detailed maps. These brochures are available from Cwmbran Library or County Hall.
 
 

The first two and a half hour walk gives you access to the mountain ridge, Henllys QuarryTwmbarlwm, and the old Henllys mine and quarry.

Having walked up from the housing estates and along Henllys Way, you turn left at the old village school to a farm. Follow the right of way gradually up the fields past a stone cottage, across a lane, up to the tree line and through a picturesque Beech wood valley.

There are stiles and posts to guide you. The route opens up at a hill farm, and onto the ridge. Bear right along the top until you are opposite the old quarry and above the spoil Cwrt Henllys Hoteltips of the old Henllys mine. Follow the route down the former tramway, past the miner’s cottages, descending all the time. Call in at the Dorallt The Dorallt Innor the Cwrt Henllys for a pint before following the tramway straight down to the housing estates.

 

 On the second two hour walk you can visit St. Peter’s Church,St. Peter's Church a variety of woods and farms including Henllys Vale.

Walking up Henllys Way, past the old village school and down the lane to the Henllys bog, you follow the signs to Twrch wood. From the wood you join the road at a cottage and on to St. Peter’s Church. Going further south, across a very busy road you can eventually walk to Vale Farm. Up the road and over a few more fields brings you back to Henllys Way.
